Why I hate "funnels" (but funnel cakes are fine!)
I call funnels the F word because I truly hate them.
You know the feeling, right? You agree to download someone's free "gift" in exchange for your email address. Then you're suddenly bombarded with upsell after upsell -- page after page where you feel almost obligated to buy or click the "no thanks" link to try to escape the upsell maze.
Then, you're in their funnel.
You start getting emails that are clearly automated.
Do I use automated emails? Yes, but only to make sure that the person got what they signed up for.
I don't know about you, but I REALLY don't like knowing I've suddenly been funneled into an assembly line where I'm just subscriber no. 12,304, and where no one cares if I unsubscribe or not.
People make lots of money doing that sort of thing. Maybe they help a few folks along the way, too, I don't know.
I just know that it's not for me.
As I'm writing this note, I have completely changed what I sell in my business. I've been told that to succeed with this business model, I need to massively grow my audience through ads and funnels.
It's not how I want to do business, period.
I'll find another way.
There is always another way that feels right. That feels like YOU.
You -- we -- just have to create it.
Funnel cakes on the other hand, are quite something! Used to eat them at the Mid-State Fair in California. They don't sell them here in Paris, so I'll have to be satisfied with an éclair (poor me!).
