The simple solution to "I'm not making any money"
I'll never forget the day I decided to become a coach.
I had just been let go from my job because I called out the founder for doing something illegal. His response: "I'm rich. I'll just pay the fines if we get caught."
I had about 3 months of cash in the bank after having had our savings wiped out by a massive unforeseen problem.
I had no other income source.
I was in debt up to my eyeballs.
I had no coach training.
I had no reputation as a coach.
I had a small following from a personal blog (about 100-150 subscribers, at most).
I was freaked out at the idea of getting another job and working for someone else because I didn't want anyone in charge of my time but ME.
I was also freaked out because I didn't want to be a professional copywriter anymore (after decades of being paid well for that skill).
I had no idea what coaches charged or how they ran their businesses.
All I knew for sure was this: I wanted to be a coach, I knew I could help people, and I had to make money -- and fast.
I needed $5K a month, to start, in order to cover the bills.
So I spent one absolutely agonizing weekend changing my blog into a coach's website. I say agonizing because I had no idea what I was doing. I barely slept because I put so much time and effort into making it look like what I thought a coach's website should be.
I made up 3 different coaching "packages" and priced them according to that $5K per month goal.
I didn't want to work with a ton of clients, so I made the minimum investment $1,800 for 3 months, paid upfront.
On Monday, exhausted from putting all of this together, I sent the offer out to my tiny email list of subscribers and offered them a short call to see if they wanted to sign up.
I got 3 calls booked that week, and all 3 people signed up -- for a total of around $6,000.
In my bank account. Right then and there!
When a coach tells me they're not making any money, I will ask them, "When was the last time you made an offer?"
Usually, the answer is that they can't remember. Or they made an offer one time and no one bought, so they stopped offering it.
I have 2 questions for you:
☀️ How important are your dreams for making an impact on people's lives and feeling fulfilled in your own life?
☀️ How important is your dream of making an income on your own terms without someone telling you when you can do this, that or the other thing?
If those things matter to you, then you simply won't quit.
You must remove the word "quit" from your vocabulary. (Did you want to quit reading right now? I'm glad you didn't!)
You create offers you believe in, and you sell them.
You keep selling even if no one is buying because you believe in what you're selling and in what you're creating.
You're creating something much bigger than an individual sale. And that sale WILL come if you keep showing up and selling.
As I'm writing this post, I have had an interesting 6 months.
At the end of 2021, I realized the business model I was using was no longer working for me.
The sales stopped coming in because I wasn't truly behind what I was selling.
It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to create and sell.
But I didn't quit. I kept going. I kept offering things to see what landed for me, first and foremost. What did I want to sell?
I'm creating and selling what I want to sell, and I won't quit because I'm building my million-dollar shop. I'm already making a positive impact on people's lives, including my own.
So, what's the simple solution to "I'm not making any money"?
You can't quit. You WON'T quit.
Keep making offers. Keep going until you find your groove, meaning, what feels great to YOU to offer to people. Keep selling even when people aren't buying because you believe in what you're offering.
The sales WILL come because you're not going to quit no matter what.
No one is an overnight success.
Those who succeed in reaching their dreams are simply the ones who don't quit.
